Hi all.
I am a bit confuced about this one.
I always had the impression that seasons start on the first of the month. For example today the first of March we would have the start of Spring, First of June the Summer, first of September automn and first of December Winter.
But i heard some people say that spring starts on the 21st of March instead. So i am not sure what is the correct. So if anyone knows it would be good to see what people think.
The dates i gave are for countries on the North. Of cource in countries like Australia, Brazil, south Africa etc it would be oposit, Winter in June and Summer in December.
And if i remember right there was a topick about favorite season in the past but i don't remember where i found it. If you want you can write your favorite season here as well.
Mine is Spring. It is the happiest season i think. Trees come back with new lieves birds start singing again, days get longer etc.
So i look forward to read your oppinions.

Hi Nikos

My favorite season is also spring. The first of each season varies from year to year. In 2006, the first day of spring was March 20. This year it is March 21. The first day of summer this year is June 21. The first day of autumn this year will be September 23. The first day of winter this year will be December 22. The first day of each season ranges from the 20th to the 23rd of these months. And the time that the new season actually starts is not at midnight of the designated day. It always officially starts at a different time.

Thanks Becky. Very usefull information.
It's very interesting that the date and time changes every year. I thought it was changing at midnight.

Greetings Nikos,
Good way of wording this question of when do the Sasons "officially" start...for in parts of Northern Michigan it seems that some the oldtimers from way back would have a saying that here in Michigan we have two Seasons. One being about 3 months and that being Summer while for the rest of the year that seemed to ever have some snow and those nine months being Winter.

As I understand it, the seasons "officially" start on the equinoxes and solstices. E. G. Northern Hemisphere Spring starts on the equinox in march ( the 20th to the 23rd). A couple of nightss back, while I was listening to the evening news, the start of "meteorological Spring" was said to be March 1. In short, I hguess it depends on who youare. LOL

Hi Nikos,
well, I think the seasons start at the same time all over the united states. I have no idea who decides when a season officially starts. I like spring and fall. when spring comes, it's a relief to have winter behind us for a little while, and we're recovering from the cold. Fall is a relief too, if we've had a long hot sumer with the humidity being high. it' starts turning cooler and we then get relief from the heat and storms. So fall and spring are my favorite times, because it's in between, not hot enough to be summer, but not cold enough to be winter. I like it in between.

I was told that the summer solstice starts on the 21st June and the winter solstice is on 21st December which are the longest and shortest days of the year. I was also told that spring starts on 21st March.
